Silica (SiO₂) is a naturally occurring mineral that enters water supplies through erosion, industrial runoff, or agricultural activity. At low levels it's not typically a health concern, but high concentrations—particularly colloidal and reactive forms—can cause pipe scaling, filtration system damage, and aesthetic issues like glass etching. Manufacturer notes that traditional removal methods such as reverse osmosis or ion exchange are often costly and don't fully address all silica forms.
How It Works
Uses Trapp XT media, made from 99.99% pure magnesium oxide, which manufacturer states captures silica, phosphates, ammonia, and heavy metals through adsorption and ion exchange. The media also raises water pH without chemicals, which the manufacturer states helps reduce corrosion and scaling. Trapp XT is NSF/WQA certified.
SMART Water Filter (optional)
Water passes through a blend of two coconut-shell GAC types (including catalytic), two Eagle Redox Alloys® (9500 & 6500), and anion exchange resin. Manufacturer states this reduces heavy metals, chlorine and chloramine, pesticides and herbicides, pharmaceutical by-products, and other inorganics such as petroleum byproducts. Ceramic and tourmaline balls are included to help maintain a more alkaline pH.
Water Softener (optional)
Water passes through an ion exchange resin and brine water conditioner. A softener is recommended because the silica removal media may increase water hardness. Hard water is associated with mineral staining on sinks, tubs, showers, and clothing; reduced lather from soap and shampoo; limescale buildup in pipes and water heaters; and reduced efficiency in water-heating systems. Softening is intended to extend the lifespan of pipes, appliances, and water-based systems such as solar heating and air conditioning.
Additional Product Options
- 12 GPM UV Water Sterilizer — targets bacteria, viruses, algae, and protozoa; UV treatment disinfects without retention tanks or added chemicals
- Leak Detector Valve — detects leaks in the filter system and shuts off water supply to prevent flooding
- Vacuum Breaker — recommended upstream of the filter system as protection against negative pressure in the water line
- Metered Valve — runs backwashing based on gallons used (standard valve runs on a set day schedule instead)
- Oxidation System — uses ozone for water oxidation
Important to Know
Manufacturer notes that stainless steel tanks may develop pinholes or rust in high-humidity environments, where salt is present, or if condensation isn't routinely wiped down. A fiberglass tank is recommended if these conditions apply or routine maintenance isn't feasible.

What is your Return Policy?
At Miles Off Grid, we want every customer to shop with confidence. If something doesn’t go as planned, we’ve made returns and refunds simple and fair. Here’s how it works:
1. Return Window
You can request a return within 30 days of receiving your order. Unfortunately, we’re unable to accept returns after that time frame.
2. Who Pays for Return Shipping?
- If your item arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, we’ll cover the return shipping cost.
- If you’re returning an item because you changed your mind, you’ll be responsible for return shipping fees.
3. Damaged or Defective Items
Received something broken or not working properly? Contact us within 30 days. We’ll provide a prepaid return label and once the item is returned and inspected, we’ll issue either a full refund or a replacement—including any original shipping costs.
4. Changed Your Mind?
If you no longer want the item, you can return it within 30 days—as long as it's unused, in its original packaging, and in resellable condition. You’ll need to handle the return shipping, and once we receive and inspect it, we’ll refund the product cost (excluding shipping).
5. Refund Processing
Once we receive and approve your return, we’ll send a confirmation email and issue a refund to your original payment method within 7 business days. Please allow additional time for banks or credit card companies to process and reflect the refund.
If it’s been over 10 business days since your refund was approved and you still don’t see it, contact us at support@milesoffgrid.com and we’ll look into it immediately.
6. Restocking Fees
In some cases, a restocking fee may apply depending on the item and return reason. If applicable, we’ll clearly communicate this during your return request process.
